Ringling Brothers & Barnum & Bailey Circus 02.27.10

This was a much anticipated event! Thankfully, the weather allowed us to go. It was a close call for a while and we weren't sure if mother nature would win. Not only was it Jaxin's first trip to the circus, but it was Jason's & Wanita's first time as well. We all had a great time. Jaxin really enjoyed all the animals! He fell asleep for about 20 min, but then woke up during intermission so he could watch the 2nd half. His favorite part of the circus was the elephants! Jason really enjoyed the motorcyclists in the sphere cage. There were 6 of them in there at one time! It was amazing! I was fascinated by the guys dancing on the stilts during the pre-show. I remember my dad had made stilts for us kids when we were younger. It was difficult just to keep your balance to walk on them. I couldn't imagine dancing on them or doing back-bends! Jaxin got some pretty cool souvenirs- an elephant from Pop-Pop, a program & 3D poster + an awesome light up toy from Aunt Mimi, and he bought a motorcycle he picked out with his own money. What a fun day! Lots of thanks to everyone for making this day possible & for sharing great memories with Jaxin! :)

My Funny Valentine

For Valentine's Day Jaxin received some pretty awesome gifts from Nana & Pop-Pop. He got a giant robot balloon that sings "I'm a Love Machine" when you hit it. Super cute, yet a bit annoying after awhile! :) They also gave him a pair of African dwarf frogs, which are extremely adorable & Jaxin loves them. We feed them twice a week and Jaxin always enjoys helping with that. He named them Optimus Prime & Megatron (he's really into Transformers right now). The frogs are very fun to watch. When they aren't sleeping, they are quite active! Especially at night, you will find them darting here and there, and surfacing frequently to breathe.

Their tank is a small ecosystem. The frog's food and bodily waste breaks down into nutrients which the bamboo plant then feeds on. In turn, the bamboo releases oxygen which the frogs breathe.

This is Optimus Prime, the smaller of the two. I believe it to be a male because the females are the larger of the species. His coloring is darker than Megatron's as well.

This is Optimus Prime again. He is burbling (floating in one position w/ arms and legs outstretched while balancing on one foot). They do this when they are being lazy-or are trying to conserve their energy so they don't have to surface as frequently.
This is Megatron. She is the bigger of the two and is lighter in color. She likes to pick on Optimus Prime sometimes. They are very playful & I've read that you must have two frogs in a tank at a time. They won't live very long by themselves. Maybe they get lonely?? What a great present for Valentine's Day! Thanks Nana & Pop-Pop!

Build-A-Bear

Jaxin went to Build-A-Bear for the first time this past Sunday. He was very excited to go as I had explained it to him the night before. First, he got to pick out his own animal. They had many to choose from - not just bears. There were frogs, monkeys, owls, bears, penguins & more. Jaxin chose a panda bear. Next he chose a sound for his bear - it giggles when you squeeze it's hand. Then he got to stuff it and bring it to "life". He helped push the pedal to stuff the bear then gave it a big bear hug to make sure he felt just right. Next he was given a small red heart. The girl working there told him to rub it between his hands to warm it up. Then to shake it up high and then low. She told him to turn around in a circle and then jump as high as he could. Next he was to rub it on his arm for strength; rub it on his belly in case the bear was hungry; rub it on his forehead for knowledge; rub it on his heart for love; and then kiss it. Then he put the heart inside the bear and the girl closed up the bear. Afterwards, he gave it a bath and then he chose an oufit for it. Jaxin decided he wanted his bear have a Batman outfit. After we dressed the bear, we went to a computer to name his bear. We asked him what he wanted to name him....and for obvious reasons, he picked "Batman". Then it was time to pay for his bear - Jaxin paid for it w/ money he had saved up (spare change & money he had earned for doing chores for Nana). Then they gave us Batman's birth certificate. The whole process was so much fun and I can't wait to go back and let him make another one! He loves Batman so much that he cuddles up w/ him when it's time to go to sleep. Sooooo cute. :)

Jaxin's First Trip to The Movies

On January 14, Jason and I took Jaxin to see his first movie at a movie theatre. I kept looking for a new Disney movie to take him to, but nothing much was playing. There was The Princess and The Frog, but I thought that might be a bit too girly for his first trip. Then, when the previews starting coming out for the new chipmunk movie, they really caught his eye. He was all about the chipmunks. Not too long after seeing the preview, he got an Alvin toy in a McDonald's happy meal. He got very excited whenever the preview would come on. So I figured we might as well take him to see it (even though the only part of the movie that was animated were the chipmunks & the chipettes). We weren't sure if he'd sit through the whole movie or not. When we arrived, we were the only ones in the theatre which was great because I figured that at least if he misbehaved that it wouldn't matter. Shortly after the movie started, two more families showed up. It didn't matter though, because Jaxin was very good the entire time. He wanted to stand in his seat a couple of times, but then stopped when we told him he couldn't do that. He loved the movie and still remembers all of the chipmunks by name! :)
